Gideon's name

We would like to share some background on Gideon's name. Gideon was named after his great-great grandfather, August Gideon Omer (1892 - 1968), whose family was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sweden. His family wanted to make it to Utah, the headquarters of the church, but they only had enough money to send one person at a time. Only having enough money for a child's ticket, Gideon was sent alone, as a 12 year old boy. He arrived in the United States knowing no English, yet made it to Utah. He went on to become a spiritual and civic leader, including a return to Sweden as mission president. We are grateful for the legacy he left and are happy to remember him through our new son. Our Gideon also carries the middle name of David, after David Merlynn Tanner, his grandfather.

We're grateful for the legacy of faith and service that Gideon has inherited from both Tom and Amy's families. What a blessing it is to have wonderful families!
