Noah's Ark
We did an AWESOME day activity on Jacob's birthday: we visited the Skirball Center's Noah's Ark exhibit. We went with some friends--Rebecca & her 4 kids. It was so much fun and it was free! There was so much to do and see. The kids just ran around to their hearts' content.
Allison and her friend, Madeline.
I loved watching Allison play with the mini ark & figurines.
This was a popular spot: the kids stuck animals two by two on a conveyor belt and then one of them wheeled it up to the huge ark structure.
This was my favorite animal there. I don't know how well you can see it, but it's violin case mouth and then a tire makes up part of the body. The best part is that by the eye, there's a glove with the fingers curved around the eyeball. Very cool in person.

Some of the ark structure that Jacob could climb up on. There were spectacular animals everywhere.
Allison enjoys a meal with Matthew & Kylie.
A needed rest from all this fun. The atmosphere was so awesome, with the museum staff wandering around playing drums, showing off impressive puppets, and setting up little props for kids to play with. The best added touch was the lady who laid out fake poop all over the floor in the ark room for the kids to sweep up and dump out. They loved it!

Birthday Boy!
Our little boy is 4!! As all kids do, Jacob was counting down the days to his birthday months in advance. I was so excited with the day finally came. We had an excellent day, beginning with presents...
I just love this expression of sheer excitement as he sat down to open presents.
Opening the big present. We're excited to now have a "backyard area" where we can have fun outdoor toys like this.
On to the party. So after months of deliberation and list-making regarding the theme of his party, much to my dismay, he chose STAR WARS!! Not that he knows much about it, but he knows it's cool and there's a lot of fighting. And not that I know anything about it to be able to throw a party, but that's what he wanted... This was our 1st kid birthday party, so I was actually a little nervous about hosting it, but it turned out great. Mostly the kids just enjoyed fighting with their foam lightsabers. Tom was a great sport to play around with them the whole time.

My friend Amanda (and one of the boys' moms) saved the day with a cool cake she skillfully decorated. The kids LOVED eating Darth Vader's head.
Happy birthday big boy! What a fun age so far!
